Gabriel Heinze has been sacked by Atlanta United after a club record eight match winless run. The last win for Atlanta was on May 15th against Montreal. The team has looked unconvincing and toothless this season. Heinze recently fell out with star striker Josef Martinez. Martinez was forced to train on his own and apparently wanted to leave the club. The front office knew that they couldn’t afford to lose Martinez and therefore parted ways with Heinze. Martinez will now rejoin the team and prepare for the match on Wednesday against FC Cincinnati. Atlanta now must begin their search for their next manager. In my opinion Atlanta need to go for a manager with MLS experience. This season it has been proven that the key to success in MLS is a manager that knows the league well. Top clubs like the Seattle Sounders, LA Galaxy, LAFC, and the New England Revolution all have managers with MLS experience. The second half of this season will be crucial for the future of the club.
