
Atlanta United’s unbeaten streak at home came to an end when they fell on Saturday night. Goals from Jonathan Mensah and Erik Hurtado helped Columbus get the three points. This was Columbus’ first road victory of the season. Atlanta had some good moments but was generally sloppy.
Jonathan Mensah opened up the scoring in the first minute. This goal was yet another goal that Atlanta has conceded off of a set-piece. Ronald Hernandez was then forced off with an injury in the 7th minute. Erik Hurtado added a second with a spectacular finish to give the visitors a 2-1 lead. Atlanta pushed for a goal throughout the second half. Josef Martinez made his long-awaited return from injury. Atlanta finally found a goal courtesy of a Dom Dwyer bicycle kick. Atlanta Manager Gonzalo Pineda was sent off shortly after the goal. Columbus was able to hold on for a 2-1 win. Thiago Almada was sent off after a postgame altercation with the referee, Joe Dickerson. Atlanta United is now winless in four matches and will be missing Thiago Almada when they face Inter Miami on June 17th.
