Atlanta United are now winless in their last four and it seems things won’t get better anytime soon. Atlanta lost 3-0 to Austin Fc on Saturday night. Austin is a good team, and it is ok that Atlanta lost. However, it is how they played that was disgraceful. It took the team 30 minutes to wake up and they were already down 2-0 by then. The players also showed a lack of desire and passion. The team spent over an hour in the locker room after the match. Gonzalo Pineda apologized to the fans during the post-match press conference and demanded more fight from his team. However, Josef Martinez’s post-match statements were what stole the headlines. Matinez talked about how things have changed since 2017 and said that what happened on Saturday was not a surprise. He also said ” We all have to think hard about what we saw here today. It could be my last year here, I’ve got one year on my contract left.” Martinez said that some players aren’t training hard enough and that they don’t appreciate the jersey. Martinez did say that he hopes to bring the good times back, but he is clearly demanding changes from the front office and some of his teammates. Atlanta will look to respond on Wednesday, as they face Real Salt Lake.
