Atlanta United finally broke their 5 match winless streak(in league play) with a 4-1 win over the Chicago Fire. The performance from Atlanta was exceptional, while the performance from Chicago left a lot to be desired. Although there are many positives that Atlanta can take from the match, the Achilles injury to Miles Robinson looks to be worrying for both Atlanta United and USMNT fans.
Atlanta started the scoring in the second minute when Ronaldo Cisneros fired the ball into the net. Atlanta United’s set-piece woes continued when the Nnamdi Offor scored off a recycled corner. Luckly for Atlanta, they were able to settle into the game and in the 27th minute, Ronaldo Cisneros scored from close range to give Atlanta a 2-1 lead. Gabriel Slonina made several important saves for Chicago throughout the night as Atlanta put the pressure on Chicago. In the 36th minute, Ronaldo Cisneros scored to get his first-half hat trick. Chris Mueller made his Chicago Fire debut and was blocked for simulation. Brooks Lennon was able to fire in a fourth goal late in the second half to seal all three points for the Five Stripes.
Chicago now sits bottom of the Eastern Conference, while Atlanta sits in 7th. Atlanta will head to Nashville’s new GEODIS park on Wednesday to play in the US Open Cup. Chicago will look to respond against FC Cincinnati.
