Atlanta United and Orlando City battled to a 1-1 draw on Sunday afternoon. Orlando opened the scoring through a Mauricio Pereira free kick. There was a large amount of confusion as Atlanta goalkeeper Rocco Rios Novo was still setting up his wall when the free kick was taken. He reportedly asked for more time to set up his wall and the referee gave him a thumbs up, and then immediately blew the whistle. Atlanta put on the pressure and found the equalizer through Juan Jose Purata, who headed home Thiago Almada’s free kick. Both sides hit the post and Pedro Gallese made a world class save to deny Dom Dwyer. Orlando was put under pressure in the second half, but Atlanta couldn’t capitalize and both sides had to settle for a point.
